Ursula von der Leyen rejected Romania’s second nomination for the EU Commissioner

The European Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen have rejected Romania’s second nomination for the EU Commissioner, namely Dan Nica, sources from Brussels told mass media

She is expecting more names from Romania for the position of European commissioner because “more nominations would be welcomed”, EC sources declared for G4Media.

Other sources claim that the EC President-elect will take a decision only after the censure motion that will be voted in the Romanian Parliament on Thursday.

Romanian Liberal MEP Siegfried Mure?an has revealed in a Facebook post on Tuesday evening that Ursula von der Leyen will not accept any candidate for a Commissioner seat from a Government “in the process of being dismissed”.

Dan Nica is Romania's second proposal for the position of European commissioner, when Rovana Plumb did not pass in the Juridical Commission of the European Parliament.

Dan Nica was also proposed by the Dancila government in the first round of names sent by Romania to Ursula von der Leyen. Plumb was nominated by Ursula von der Leyen to Dan Nica's detriment, but was later on rejected by the Juridical Commission.

The government insisted on suggesting Rovana Plumb who was rejected for the second time by JURI Commission, which considered the former environment minister could not justify the loans made and the way in which they could be paid back.

After that, Dancila sent again Dan Nica's proposal, although initially they had also considered Gabriela Ciot, secretary of state in the Foreign Ministry.

On Monday, Dancila sent only Nica's proposal to Brussels and on Tuesday the news that von der Leyen was expecting more nominations from Romania appeared.

Dan Nica, former interior minister, faced serious integrity problems solved after controversial episodes. Nica was mentioned in EADS case, a very complex one. Nica was also investigated in the Microsoft case, for abuse of power but the facts were prescribed and the former minister got rid of the accusations.
