Vosganian: by the end of 2014 we should start the procedures for the privatisation of all the companies in the ME portfolio

The minister of economy intends that, by the end of next year, he should start procedures for privatisation for all the companies they have in the portfolio, without the ones that mean the security core of Romania, stated the minister of economy Varujan Vosganian at the end of the meeting with the delegation of IMF, the World Bank and the European Commission. According to the information given on Wednesday by the minister of economy Varujan Vosganian stated that the discussions with the representatives of the international institutions relied on three elements: the stage of collaboration, the evolutions in the domains under the direct responsibility of the ministry and the debts in the state-run companies.

“We have presented the data regarding industry and exports and IMF agreed with our position according to which the industry and the exports constitute at this moment two of the most important pillars for the development of Romania. We could also add, if the economic year is good, agriculture. Moreover, IMF said yes. We reconsidered the GDP growth to 2%. And I said that, if the industry and the exports have the same evolution there is the chance to surpass 2%” Vosganian said.

The minister of economy said that, as regards debts, he sent to the representatives of international institutions the message that he wanted in the future not to speak about the debts of state-run companies and the above mentioned companies be privatised.

He added that they also discussed about the commitment of the ministry, through the Department for Energy as regards the programme for privatisation in the period to follow.

“We have presented the calendar the Department of Energy offered, regarding Romgaz, Nuclearelectrica, CE Oltenia and Hidroelectrica. IMF considers as ambitious our desire to launch bids on the stock exchange for Nuclearelectrica and Romgaz this autumn. We have already that that the procedures are initiated and we consider as realistic this programme. We wondered why Hidroelectrica and CE Oltenia had the programme in 2014 and we said that the evaluations that take place and the strategies regarding the participation of these two companies on the market for energy needs a longer period” Varujan Vosganian said, adding that for Hidroelectrica the programme is for the second half of next year.

A IMF team, led by Andrea Schaechter visits Romania during the period of 17-31 July, for discussions on the next programme with Romania. The conclusions of the meetings will be presented at the end of the mission.
