Romania registers the lowest percentage of steady Internet users în EU


Romania registers the lowest percentage of steady Internet users in the European Union, respectively 48 pct, while 39 pct of the overall population has never used the digital medium, show data of the European Commission (EC), recently quoted at the second edition of the regional conference on intellectual rights property, organised by the Romanian-American University in Bucharest. 

As regards the integration of digital technology in the daily operations of companies, less than 10 pct of them use the cloud technology and less than half of these are present on the web. 

On the other hand, the Cultural Consumption Barometer regarding the distribution of the Internet usage frequency for various purposes shows that of the total number of Romanians using the Internet, 70 pct use Facebook or other social media networks. 

Moreover, in a skills top, Romania is expected to rank 3rd for creativity in 2020, according to estimates, after ranking only 10th in 2015. 

At the same time, Romania is a leader in Europe and ranks sixth in the world with respect to the number of certified IT experts, with over 100,000 representatives. 

According to a press release of the regional conference organisers in Bucharest, over 35,000 IT companies were founded in Romania from 1990 to 2016, over 70 pct of these in the last 10 years. Moreover, renowned companies such as Intel, Motorola, Sun Microsystems, Boeing etc. have opened software research and development centres in Romania with the first two companies in the world, Microsoft and Oracle, opening branches with thousands of employees each. 

The games industry is also prosperous, the biggest studios in the domain such as Ubisoft, Electronic Arts (EA), Gameloft, King Digital Entertainment, Mobility Games or FUN Labs being present in Romania with important subsidiaries, some with over 1,000 employees. In 2015, Romania ranked 2nd in the list of countries in Central and Eastern Europe regarding revenues from the video gaming industry, after Poland. 

In the music industry, there are online music services (download and streaming) in Romania which legally facilitate the public's access to the national and international repertoire. Thus, among the services mostly used, alongside the well known YouTube, Apple, Google Music Play, there are also Zonga, Trilulilu or Getmusic.ro, reads the quoted source.
