Commune Ocna Sugatag from the county Maramures was certified as a touristic resort of national interest, and other 12 localities were certified as touristic resorts of local interest, according to a press release of the ministry of economy, energy, and business environment.

'The govern of Romania, at the initiative of the ministry of economy, energy and business environment adopted on Thursday, 22nd October 2020 the draft government decision for the approval of the certification of localities or parts of localities as touristic resorts of national interest, namely local interest and for the amendment of annex no.5 to the government decision no.852/2008 for the approval of the norms and criteria for certification of touristic resorts. Following the checking of compliance with legal criteria, at the request of the authorities of local administration and at the same time, taking into consideration the touristic potential and the natural and antropic resources, commune Ocna Sugatag (Maramures county) was certified as touristic resort of national interest and other 12 localities such as Anina (county Caras-Severin), Cavnic (county Maramures), Dorna-Arini (county Suceava), Ghioroc (county Arad), Gura Siriului (county Buzau), Sadova (county Suceava), Sacele (county Brasov), Sannicolau Mare (county Timis), Sighetu Marmatiei (county Maramures), Stei (countyl Bihor), Tulucesti (county Galati), Vatra Moldovitei (county Suceava), as well as the touristic area of commune Bors (county Bihor)”, the press release says.

On a long and medium term, the certification of the respective localities as touristic resorts of national or local interest, will create a positive impact. They will be promoted with their new statute and thus will have better chance to draw non-refundable financing, as some of the programmes impose this criterion, influencing the increase of touristic circulation.

Similarly, taking into account the multiplying effect of tourism in connecting economic sectors , such as transport, constructions, agriculture, handycraft and retail, implementation of touristic programmes of tourism in these resorts will generate a beneficial impact from an economic point of view and equally will contribute to the increase of life quality of the inhabitants of these areas.

Until this moment, in Romania there are certified 52 touristic resorts of national interest and 87 of local interest.
