Romania and Canada will identify ways in which the two states may exchange information on environmental impact evaluation procedures, in the case of high capacity mining projects, Attila Korodi, Ro0mania's Minister of the Environment and Climate Change told a United Nations Climate Summit going on in New York.

"Discussions during the bilateral Romanian-Canadian meeting have focussed on environmental impact evaluation procedures for mining projects conducted in the two countries. In this context, the Romanian Minister of the Environment, Attila Korodi, and his Canadian counterpart, Leona Aglukkaq, have agreed in principle to develop a system that would allow for information exchanges between the two countries. The information exchanged regards both environmental impact evaluation procedures for high capacity mining, as well as the main companies and their mining practices and procedures," reads a press release issued on Thursday.

Discussions at a meeting of Attila Korodi and Jorge Moreira da Silva, the minister of the environment and energy of Portugal, focused on the need to strengthen dialogue between the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, currently together under a Visegrad 4+ format, and the EU-15 countries, with the purpose of identifying common elements that must be clarified ahead of the EU-level agreement on the 2030 framework for climate and energy policies.

Korodi also met Environment Minister of Israel, Amir Peretz, with the two officials discussing a recent cooperation agreement signed between the two states, and in this context, the opportunity to develop the agreement in the area of environmental protection. He proposed that, in the coming months, Romania and Israel begin an experience exchange at the expert level, expressing his interest in the transfer of expertise, including through cooperation in the academic area.

During the summit, Korodi also met the Federal Minister for Environment and Nuclear Security of Germany, Barbara Hendricks. The German official proposed that the two states develop a partnership in the near future in the area of energy efficiency, under a project that Germany would implement in a Romanian city.
