EIB could grant Romania between 700 and 900 million euro loans this year

The European Investment Bank (EIB) could grant Romania this year loans with total values amounting to between 700 and 900 million euros, EIB President Werner Hoyer said on Monday, after the meeting at the Victoria Palace with Prime Minister Victor Ponta.

'My idea is that we should not be too little ambitious. I believe that between 700 and 900 million euros is a wide range of the possible activities this year, actually double,' Werner Hoyer said, referring to the fact that last year the EIB lent Romania 335 million euuros.

He also pointed out that the amount was hard to evaluate in exact figure, but added that the EIB was willing to significantly exceed the loan value last year.

According to him, Romania is a country very actively involved in solving the budget-related issues. He mentioned that the EIB could get involved, could provide help in the cased in which co-funding was difficult.

Werner Hoyer explained that the measure in which the co-funding issue could be solved, with the EIB help, included, would widely affect the volume of loans granted to Romania.

'We only know that we are ready to do significantly more that what was done last year, and this also was quite a lot,' Werner Hoyer also said.

In his turn, Prime Minister Victor Ponta said it was a great honour for Romania to have a Vice President with the European Investment Bank, in the person of Mihai Tanasescu.

Public Finance Minister Daniel Chitoiu, Minister Delegate for Budget Liviu Voinea, Minister Delegate for Infrastructure Projects Dan Sova also participated in the meeting.
