President Iohannis: At this moment, Romania does not yet meet the criteria to join Eurozone
President Klaus Iohannis stated on Thursday that, at this moment, Romania doesn't yet meet the criteria regarding the accession to the Eurozone, underscoring that is is not realistic for our country to set a deadline for it.
"When we have overlapping crises, the energy crisis, we have major problems with European industry, we are seeking solutions for European competitiveness, we have high inflation, it is quite complicated to give a deadline. I don't think it is realistic for Romania to set any deadline for entering the Eurozone. The criteria for joining the Eurozone are known, there are many criteria. There is a pre-accession period. I think that, at this moment, Romania does not yet meet these criteria and, when we meet most of the criteria, we can start making a more concrete plan about when to join the Eurozone, but now it seems a bit risky to give a deadline," said the head of state, who is in Brussels.
Klaus Iohannis participated on Thursday and Friday, in Brussels, in the spring meeting of the European Council and the Euro Summit.
