Good results in 2017 for Danone Romania support the strong business plans and investments in 2018
Last year Danone Romania recorded strong business results, consolidating a profitable position which allows the company to continue investing in the Romanian market in 2018, a press release sent to ACTMedia informs.
Revenues amounted to 497 million lei, increasing by approx. 3% compared to 2016. The positive evolution in the past several years is a consequence of Danone’s focus on the yogurt segment where it delivers on the market incremental differentiated value for consumers – either under global brands like Activia, Actimel, Danonino or under local ones, like Cremosso and Delicios. Danone Romania keeps its position of undisputable leader of the local yogurts market*.
“Danone business results in Romania offer a basis for sustainable further development of the business and for further local investments, in our Bucharest factory, in social projects and in developing the category of yogurts. In 2017-2018 we invest approx. 1 million euro in developing 2 production lines and introducing a new palletizing robot in the factory, allowing us to better cover the needs on both local market and the other markets we serve in the region. A similar amount, 1 million euros, was invested in supporting the growth of our partner farmers, both householders and professional farms,” stated Natalia Gelstein Kiss, General Manager Danone Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Adriatics.
Over 1 million yogurts in average are daily produced in the Bucharest factory, which is using
more than 60 million liters of milk yearly, in majority coming from Romanian farmers or householders.
“After supporting in the last few years Activia, Actimel and Danonino, in 2018 we relaunched the Danone brand for our core portfolio, inviting consumers to take the journey of rediscovering the joy of simple recipes based on milk and ferments, the goodness of yogurts and we support overall a repositioning of this category,” stated Natalia Gelstein Kiss.
Yogurt category and consumption is still lagging behind when compared to other countries, at approx. 6.6 kilos per capita per year – compared to 23 in Bulgaria, over 10 in Czech Republic or 21 in Sweden. However, yogurt is a product known for its digestive benefits and interest of Romanians for healthy food is on the rise in the recent years.
