Nicolescu(Deloitte): the state-run companies should sponsor national interest objectives, not to waste the money

The state-run companies should sponsor national interest objectives such as health, education or monument restoration, not to waste money, stated on Friday Razvan Nicolescu, expert in energy in the Deloitte Central Europe and former minister of Energy.

He was asked how he comments the information presented on Thursday by the Control corps of the prime minister according to which there found irregularities in Transelectrica and Transgaz, namely unjustified bonuses or perks, as well as suspicious contracts between 2009- 2013.

Among the irregularities is the fact that Transgaz offeed sponsorships of 13 million lei to the Association Club Sportiv’Gaz Metan Medias’, the sponsorships being approved by people in the Transgaz leadership which had the quality of members of the board in the respective sporting association.

‘In all or very many of the companies still run by the state there are irregularities and do not be surprised if the months that come there will consequences as well. As those who break the rules, take many risks, especially in Romania where the justice is more and more independent to do its job well. From my point of view, it is important to prevent such things’ Nicolescu said, who was present at the launching conference of Aspen Energy Lab.

He mentioned the fact that in 2014, when he was minister of energy, he issued an order according to which all sponsorships must be public.

‘For the press and the public opinion and the shareholders know where the money goes. At the same time, I had a series of recommendations that these sponsorships to be directed to one or two objectives of national interest. For example, when I go to Ulpia Traianan, I am ashamed of what I see there. And when you see whom they sponsor the state-run companies from the domain of energy you find football teams, churches, employees who have health issues, education. Surely, there are many needs, but it is important that these financial resources be directed to the objective: be it health, or be it education or monument restoration, but it should happen not waste the money’ Razvan Nicolescu said.
