Uzbekistan must be an important target for Romanian businesspeople
Uzbekistan must be an important target for Romanian businesspeople, especially for SMEs, in a situation where I think we have to expand our sphere of economic collaboration also outside the European Union, the Vice-Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Aurelian Gogulescu said on Tuesday during a business seminar.
"Uzbekistan is a country with which Romania had excellent cooperation in the past, but it seems that in recent years, taking into account the value of bilateral trade, commercial relations have stalled. Our interest is to resume the economic cooperation between Romania and Uzbekistan, especially since Uzbekistan is currently one of the countries with the fastest economic growth, ranking 26th in the world according to the European bank EGBs. Uzbekistan is one of the most important countries in Central Asia, with some extraordinary mineral resources of gold, platinum, gas, with significant oil reserves, and also the second-largest producer of cotton in the world. These are only some of the reasons which make us think that a stronger cooperation with Uzbekistan is more than necessary at present," said Aurelian Gogulescu.
The CCIR has organized the business seminar "Cooperation Opportunities with Uzbekistan" in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and European Profiles, within the EU-financed programme dubbed "Management Training Program (MTP)".
"Romania is exporting to Uzbekistan metal products and construction materials. The bilateral trade stood in 2015 at somewhere under 16 million euros. It is an insignificant figure that could be much improved by organizing seminars through which get to know each other better. In fact, this conference is part of an EU project in which partners are several companies and associations from many countries, not only from Romania but also from Greece, France and the United Kingdom. This seminar organized in partnership with a consortium led by European Profiles and is dedicated to the Romanian companies interested in the market of Uzbekistan," said Aurelian Gogulescu.
According to him, in order to relaunch the bilateral trade deeper mutual knowledge between the business milieus of the two countries is necessary, as well as the CCIR's greater involvement in this respect.
The event focused on 21 economic sectors of interest to the business milieu of Uzbekistan. The main economic sectors of interest are agriculture, food industry, construction, chemical industry, IC&T, pharmaceuticals and textile industry.
