Ambassador Klemm participated at the International Business Forum
Ambassador of the US in Bucharest stated on Thursday that the US market is "the most competitive in the world" and the fact that the Romanian businessmen think about investing abroad represents a sign of maturity.
The US official attended the International Business Forum organised at the Palace of Parliament and said that, in view of his mandate, the current Romanian Gov't is the first to organise an event meant to encourage and motivate businessmen to think about the idea of investing abroad.
He said that it represents sign of maturity that can be noticed among the Romanian companies and economic force.
Klemm also talked about this year's edition of the Select US programme, which took place in June and aimed at creating a link between the US businessmen and the rest of the world.
The diplomat mentioned that out of the 3,000 attendees from over 60 countries, the Romanian delegation was the largest of Europe and the 5th largest delegation around the world.
The Ambassador quoted Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York" in order to describe the US business milieu, adding that it is the most competitive market in the world and, to paraphrase Sinatra, he went on saying "If you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere."
The International Business Forum gathered ambassadors, representatives of the business environment and members of the Romanian Government. The new British Ambassador, Andrew Noble, spoke about the manner in which he perceives Romania. He went on saying that Romania is a very different country from the one he had seen for the first time in 1983. He stated that Romania is a wonderful country, that looks towards the future, while proudly preserving its traditions and history. He mentioned that the bilateral relation, which goes back from the 19th century, is developing quickly.
The UK diplomat also tackled the post-Brexit outlooks, mentioning that the UK is currently open, as well as in the future to doing businesses.
In his turn, ad-interim Charge d'Affairs with the French Embassy Martial Adam, characterised the economic relation with our country, underscoring that there are over 2,300 French companies operating in Romania, with France being the 4th investor in our country, with 4.2 billion euro. He went on saying that Romania is still attractive due to the cost of workforce, but it is also appreciated in France for the quality of the training of its engineers and researchers. Also mentioned was the France-Romania Cultural Season, which is to be launched at the end of 2018.
The French diplomat pointed out that the relationship between Romania and France could be more intense, because Romania's market share in France is still low, less than 2 percent.
Martial Adam stated that this is one of the reasons why both governments decided on the occasion of the Greater Union Centennial and that of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union to organize the France-Romania Season, which will not only be a political and cultural event, but it will have an important economic dimension and will be a good opportunity for small and medium-sized Romanian companies to find business opportunities with French companies both in Romania and France.
Also delivering speeches at the event were chiefs of missions of Turkey, South Africa, Egypt, Turkmenistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Pakistan and Switzerland Embassies.
