DefMin Dusa had a phone call with his Canadian counterpart Robert Nicholson

Romanian National Defence Minister Mircea Dusa had a phone call with his Canadian counterpart Robert Nicholson on Tuesday ahead of the Meeting of NATO Defence Ministers due in Brussels on Thursday, the defence ministry announced in a release.

The two ministers approached the phase in the moves for the implementation of the decisions adopted at NATO Summit in Wales, as being the focus of the agenda of this week's meeting, the release added.

'Both the Romanian minister and his Canadian counterpart underlined the importance of implementing the Action Plan for enhancing the operational capability of the Alliance within the previously agreed calendar', the ministry stressed.

Dusa thanked Nicholson for the excellent cooperation of Romania and Canada on defence, as also seen in the dispatch of a Canadian F-18 jet fighter contingent stationed in Campia Turzii (central Romania) and the joint exercises with the Romanian air forces held in last summer amid the implementation of NATO measures aimed to reassure the allies on the eastern border of the North Atlantic Alliance, the ministry said.

'The presence of six F-18 jet fighters in Campia Turzii represents the materialization of the principle of solidarity and the firm commitment of Canada to NATO's sustained efforts for the security of the allied countries', the release quotes Dusa as saying.

The Canadian defence minister, in turn, thanked his Romanian counterpart for the fast reaction of the Romanian authorities in providing the conditions for stationing the Canadian contingent and carrying out the joint drills; he voiced belief their two countries will consolidate the already existing bilateral relations by capitalising on new development opportunities.
