EC didn't send a letter of suspension of Sibiu-Pitesti motorway, but requested additional information

The European Commission didn't send any letter suspending the financing of European funds for the Sibiu-Pitesti motorway, but a letter of observations requesting additional information on this project, the European Funds Ministry (MFE) informed on Saturday.

The MFE's reaction comes as a result of a post of former Transport Minister Razvan Cuc on his Facebook page, according to which the European Commission sent a notification suspending the financing of European funds for the Sibiu-Pitesti motorway because of some environmental issues.

The MFE also stated that the European Commission's request for additional information does not affect in any way the implementation of the ongoing project.

"The request for funding was sent to the European Commission for assessment on 25 October 2019. On 23 December 2019, the EC requested additional information from the national authorities regarding the project. The deadline for responding to the EC request for information is two months since the reception of the letter. The EC's request does not affect in any way the implementation of the project, which is in progress. The European Commission has not sent any letter of suspension. The document sent by the Commission is called a letter of observations," the MFE explained.

According to the European regulations, the MEF says that the European Commission has at its disposal three months to adopt an approval decision since the moment of conveyance.
