ECOSOC: Laura Maria Craciunean, elected as a member of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
Romania's nominee Professor Laura Maria Craciunean has been elected, in Tuesday's coordination and management session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), as a member of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR), the Permanent Mission of Romania to the UN informed in a release.
Prof. Craciunean will have one of the nine vacant seats for the 2017-2020 term. Her election by acclamation, by the member states of the ECOSOC, "confirms the solid professional profile of the candidate nominated by the Government of Romania," the release mentions.
The CESCR is the body of 18 independent experts that monitors implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights by its States parties. Romania has not been represented in the committee since the 1980s.
