European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to visit Romania today

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will visit Romania today.

In the afternoon, she will meet with President Nicusor Dan and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan in the seaside city of Constanta.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will be in Romania on Monday to discuss with the Romanian authorities primarily about European defence on the eastern flank, President Nicusor Dan said on Sunday.

He also said that the talks with the European leader will address "the issue of the deficit and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR)".

"As you know, Mrs von der Leyen has visited countries on the eastern flank. There will be a discussion regarding European defence on the eastern flank, the SAFE mechanism, and matters concerning our relations with the European Commission and, it is no secret, the issue of the deficit and the PNRR," said Nicusor Dan.

Before Romania, Ursula von der Leyen also visited Bulgaria on Sunday. The visit is part of her tour of the countries on the EU's eastern border – Latvia, Finland, Estonia, Poland, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Romania.

The aim of the visit of the EC President is to underline the EU's support for the Member States facing the challenges of the common borders with Russia and Belarus.
