FinMin Petrescu: Draft Tax Code to be reposted for public consultation

The Finance Ministry will repost on its website, for public consultation, a draft amending the Tax Code, and the new document will come into effect on January 1, 2016, according to Finance Minister Ioana-Maria Petrescu, quoted by Agerpres.

Attending the release on Thursday for public debate of a fiscal pact, an initiative of the academic and the business communities, Petrescu mentioned that the Finance Ministry posted on its website in June 2014 a draft Tax Code and a draft Tax Procedure Code, but in two weeks' time they came under attack without people understanding that they were drafts up for public discussion, not some emergency ordinances that were to come into force the next day. The draft Tax Code was then withdrawn from the site.

Petrescu mentioned the history of the draft Tax Code, which was to be discussed, amended and scheduled to come into force on January 1, 2015, because simplification, efficiency and predictability of tax legislation are some of four principles underpinning the stability pact, alongside boosting direct investment, depoliticising, computerising and professionalising of the National Tax Administration Authority (ANAF) as well as zero tolerance for tax evasion.

'I have not given up and I will repost it on the site for public debate. We will discuss it and, hopefully, it will come into force on January 1, 2016, because a Tax Code cannot come into force in the middle of the year,' said Petrescu.

Referring to transparency, Petrescu mentioned a draft law amending the capital market law that is currently in its third of fourth version following consultations with the interested parties.
