Harvested timber amount drops 2 pct in 2023
Forestry companies reported a 2 percent decrease in the volume of timber harvested in 2023 compared to the previous year, shows data released on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
According to the report, there was a 1.9 percent drop in the volume of logged roundwood. In the total volume of logged roundwood, hardwood species account for the largest share - 61.3 percent, while coniferous trees account for 38.7 percent. Among the deciduous species, beech represents the largest share, specifically 32.1 percent of the total logged roundwood.
The volume of softwood species increased by just 1.4 percent, with a share of 38.7 percent in the total volume of logged roundwood.
Deciduous species combined registered a decrease of 3.9 percent, accounting for 61.3 percent in the volume of logged roundwood.
