HealthMin Achimas-Cadariu, WHO Europe's Jakab discuss public healthcare, preventive programmes
Healthcare and disease prevention programmes were the main topics of a conversation on Tuesday between Romania's Health Minister Patriciu Achimas-Cadariu and World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Director for Europe Zsuzsanna Jakab.
Achimas-Cadariu informed Jakab that an important national disease prevention and education programme will be released in Romania, the Health Ministry reports.
"Also next week a first public debate will be held on a vaccination bill. This spring, the Health Ministry will draw up a programme for early detection of cervical, breast and colorectal cancer under a comprehensive cancer control plan to be released this April," says the ministry.
The WHO official praised the Health Ministry for its efforts to develop preventive programmes as well as a plan for surveillance and control of nosocomial epidemics released this month.
At the same time, Romania's efforts to fight against tobacco consumption and a recent adoption of a law banning smoking in closed indoor spaces as from March 16 were mentioned.
Jakab assured the ministry of a WHO commendation for Romania's 2014-2020 healthcare strategy and the continuation of a national tuberculosis programme, while offering full support to WHO Europe for raising funds for the Romanian healthcare system.
