Investors in agribusiness will continue to come to Romania
The low price of agricultural lands, the quality of the soil and the cheap workhand represent only some of the reasons for which Romania continues to represent a destination of interest for the foreign investors in agribusiness.
According to the National Institute for Statistics out of the over 238,000 square km – the surface of the country, approximately 63% is represented by arabal land which could be cultivated with wheat and corn.
Romania has a big arable surface and is placed strategically in Europe, reason for which the investors in agribusiness will continue to come, considers Hugh Beirne, manager and co-owner of the company Avalon Comp.
‘The companies of Romania and the market here are attractive for investors. With an ample source of food locally produced, the farmers who deal with the animal raising will continue to invest here’ said the entrepreneur who was behind the mega-transaction of over 50 million euro with which the Irish group Origin Entreprises with annual income of 1.4 billion euro, took over,a s a package, the entrepreneur business specialised in distribution of agri input Redoxim Timisoara and Comfert Bacau.
The biggest companies with foreign investment in agriculture which opened their business in Romania develop their activity especially in the trading area, namely buy raw materials from the Romanian farmers which they export to other countries, as in the case of Cargill, Ameropa, Expur or others, although there are foreign investors with integrated systems of production, as in the case of the Chinese in Smithfield, the biggest pork processor at world level, which has 52 active farms of swine in Timis and Arad counties and their own slaughter houses.
