Iohannis meets businessmen: Romania will get out of this crisis

President Klaus Iohannis met representatives of the business world on Tuesday, to discuss the topic of restarting economy,  and at the end he sent a confidence message to companies and investors. “Romania will get out of this crisis and will be all right”, said the head of state who pointed out that the main objective will be increasing investments.

President Klaus Iohannis referred in a statement to the press to relaunching economy. According to him, efforts will focus on the gradual re-opening of economic sectors which had been under restrictions.

“Unfortunately, danger is still present and there are no elements showing that the virus will disappear suddenly in the near future. For that reason, re-opening activities of restaurants, hotels, tourism and services will take place gradually by observing clear protection measures,”Klaus Iohannis declared. According to him, the package of economic measures adopted by Romania in the period of emergency state concentrated on maintaining jobs and supporting the most affected economic sectors.

“We will keep the support for granting technical unemployment after May 14, but we will also introduce new measures about flexible work, allowing sectors affected directly or indirectly to resume activity, with the obvious purpose of preserving jobs. We will continue to apply state aid, like the one for small and medium size companies, but we will have in view support for large companies  which were affected by the crisis  and whose contribution is essential for relaunching economy,”the president declared.

Klaus Iohannis announced that the government negotiated with the European Commission that all European funds available at this moment can be redirected with priority by support programs for companies and for big infrastructure and communication projects.

“We are speaking about a reconstruction project for Romania. Quality Romanian products represent, in their turn, a resource which we will promote  and we will support significant investments in economic sectors of strategic interest such as agriculture and food industry, energy and food security. The modernization and digitization of administration will also continue,” Iohannis said.

The head of state says the partnership is very important for a period of deep crisis like the one we are crossing now.”

“Romania will get out of crisis in one piece. My firm conviction is that the partnership between authorities and the private environment, based on constant and transparent dialogue is the path to economic relaunch and durable development. This thing is the more important in a period of deep crisis we experience now,” said the president after meeting the businessmen.

In his turn, Florin Jianu, the president of the National Council of Private Small and Medium Companies of Romania (CNIPMMR), emphasized, at the meeting president Iohannis had on Tuesday with businessmen the need to allocate a billion euros for small companies, according to a CNIPMMR press release.

“I sent the president of Romania the message of small companies in Romania: avoiding post crisis over regulations for small companies; preserving the lessons learned during this period; allocating 1 billion euros for small companies; using all European funds which will come from EU; to be prepared and pro-active”, shows the synthesis of measures proposed for economic recovery presented by Florin Jianu at the meeting with the president of Romania.
