Isarescu: BNR obtained in 2018 a profit of 1.183 billion lei, six times more than in 2017

Governor of the Central Bank, (BNR), Mugur Isarescu, said at the presentation of the annual report of the institution that the bank had obtained in 2018 a profit of 1.183 billion lei, six times higher than in 2017, 80% of which, namely 946 million lei went to the budget.

On 31 December 2018 the own capital of the BNR recorded a level fo 18.795 billion lei, up by 9.5% against 2017. The governor says that a significant level of the capital strengthens the capacity of the institution to meet its legal attributions as well as the tasks which come from the quality of a member of the European System of the Central banks, guaranteeing the independence and offering credibility to the operations.

The governor said that over the last five years, the institution gave to the state budget almost half a billion euro, namely 465 million euro.

On 31 December 2018 the international reserves of Romania were worth 36.8 billion euro, out of whicGovernor BNR Mugur Isarescu said at the presentation of the annual report of the institution that the bank had obtained in 2018 a profit of 1.183 billion lei, six times higher than in 2017, 80% of which, namely 946 million lei went to the budget.

On 31 December 2018 the own capital of the BNR recorded a level fo 18.795 billion lei, up by 9.5% against 2017. The governor says that a significant level of the capital strengthens the capacity h 88.8% foreign currency reserve and 10.2% monetary gold, registering a drop of 306 million euro against the end of 2018.

The gold reserve was kept at about 104 tons, out of which 61 tons are kept with the Bank of England. BNR made a check at the headquarters of the institution for the third time. The gold reserve has increased by 123 million euro, as a result of the growth of the price of gold on the international market.

The costs of the gold storage was in 2018 345,000 lei, up from the value of 309,000 lei of 2017.
