Judges' Motivation: Liviu Dragnea adopts illegal, antisocial and immoral behaviour contrary to his position

Supreme Court judges show, in the motivation to the prison sentence of 3 years and 6 months for Liviu Dragnea in the case of hirings at DGASPC Teleorman, that he had adopted an illegal, antisocial and immoral behaviour contrary to the public position he held.

Magistrates say the social danger degree of his deeds is shown by the “way in which employees of public institutions accept to commit acts of penal nature, influenced and intimidated by the way the president of the County Council understood to exert his authority, power and influence for illegal purposes.”

Magistrates show, referring to Liviu Dragnea’s activity at Teleorman County Council, the way in which he acted in the institutional relation with the former chief of the General Department of Social Assistance and Child Protection (DGASPC ) Teleorman, Floarea Alesu, is “the eloquent expression of the way in which power, influence and authorities conferred by the positions held are intentionally used in illegal actions.”

In June, Supreme Court magistrates sentenced Liviu Dragnea to serve 3 years and 6 months in jail. The decision was made by two of the three court judges. The third judge voted for acquittal. The decision is not final.
