The two officials examined the optimal solutions to improve bilateral judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters, with emphasis on the signing of a new extradition treaty.

Specifically, JusMin Catalin Predoiu proposed the Canadian side the start of talks for the conclusion of a new and modern extradition treaty, in line with recent developments in Romania's criminal law, as well as with the expected amendments to the Criminal Codes, the more so as the previous treaty dates from 1895.

Following the meeting, the sides decided for bilateral dialogue to continue at the level of experts in the field of criminal judicial cooperation and for the identification of the best ways to resolve issues of common interest, the Justice Ministry said.
