Klaus Iohannis asks Parliament to ratify Protocol of North Macedonia’s accession to NATO

President Klaus Iohannis signed on Tuesday the decree on the ratification by Parliament of the Protocol of North Macedonia’s accession to NATO, signed in Brussels on February 6, 2019, a press release shows.

Macedonia’s accession to EU and NATO was blocked by Greece which refused to accept the name of the country, considering it represented a territorial claim for one of its northern regions bearing the same name.

The Greek Parliament ratified an accord on signing the change of the name of the Republic of Macedonia into the Republic of Northern Macedonia on January 25.
