MAE: possibilities for expanding economic cooperation within the EU-Pakistan cooperation framework
Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Melescanu on Monday received the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Romania, Safdar Hayat, who is currently paying a visit to Romania, according to a press release remitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Participating in the meeting was also Zaheer Janjua, Undersecretary of State with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, who came to Bucharest to attend a series of bilateral consultations at foreign affairs ministry level, scheduled for December 5.
"At the meeting, the two countries' officials reviewed the main aspects characterizing the relations between Romania and Pakistan. The Romanian official welcomed the upward trend seen in the political-diplomatic dialogue and appreciated the frequency of the contacts between the foreign ministries of the two states, and especially the organization of such annual rounds of political-diplomatic consultations," the press release said.
At the same time, the Romanian Minister emphasized the need to stimulate economic contacts to capitalize on the existing potential, with the support of the chambers of commerce and industry of the two states, the Honorary Consulates of Romania in Pakistan and other formats meant for the promotion of economic relations, such as the commerce chambers and the industrial federations. They also mentioned the possibilities for expanding economic cooperation within the EU-Pakistan cooperation framework.
Discussions also highlighted the mutual interest in stimulating sectoral cooperation in such fields as as agriculture, IT, education and culture, as well as in developing a bilateral legal framework. The two officials also tackled such aspects related to bilateral cooperation at the level of international organizations, with emphasis on cooperation at UN level.
