President Basescu and PM Victor Ponta met CIA Deputy Director Avril D. Haines

The President of Romania Traian Basescu on Monday welcomed Avril D. Haines, Deputy Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the Presidential Administration informs.According to the quoted source, discussed during the meeting were the situation in the region, as well as the good collaboration between security services of the two countries.

Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta at Victoria Palace also on Monday received US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Deputy Director Avril D. Haines, informs a Government release.

'On this occasion, they talked about aspects concerning the developments in the region and highlighted the excellent collaboration between the intelligence services of Romania and the US,' the cited source pointed out.

A similar meeting took place at the Cotroceni Palace. President Traian Basescu on Monday announced he had a meeting with CIA Deputy Director, the topics tackled being related to the regional issues and opinions about increasing security in the region.

The US 'wants, let's say, do its job as Romania's strategic partner both through the significance of the visits paid in the coming period and through direct contributions to increasing the security level of Romania and in the region,' the head of state pointed out.
