President Basescu met World bank's chairman Jim Yong Kim, at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace

Romania's President Traian Basescu on Thursday welcomed a delegation of the World Bank headed by the bank's chairman Jim Yong Kim, at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace, where he said World Bank's expertise could be of value to Romania in areas such as healthcare, education and administrative capacity, all areas where Romania faces major deficiencies.

'At the meeting, Chairman of the World Bank Jim Yong Kim commended Romania for its reforms conducted since the beginning of the economic crisis that allowed the country to be in its current position of economic growth, about to get rid of excessive deficit. At the same time, Jim Yong Kim motioned that the World Bank could play the part of a strategic consultant in the still unreformed provinces under the new country strategy to be drawn up for Romania this year,' the Presidential Administration reported in a press release on Thursday.

According to the release, President Basescu thanked the World Bank for its constant support under the multilateral financial assistance agreement, extended together with the International Monetary Fund and the European Commission, as well as under other projects that have so far contributed toward the development of various areas in Romania.

'At the same time, President Basescu said the expertise of the World Bank could be of value to Romania in areas where the country faces major deficiencies, such as healthcare, education and administrative capacity. The President also said at the meeting that the technical assistance extended by the World Bank should also be steered toward securing Romania's sustainable economic growth, given that the structural reforms of late have started bearing fruit,' reads the release.
