PSD's Dragnea: I have no business in Brazil; everything starts from Soros

Social Democratic Party (PSD) Chairman Liviu Dragnea said he has no business in Brazil or in any other country and that he has no connection with the National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) investigation, maintaining that "everything starts from businessman George Soros."

According to Dragnea, "information has been mixed up with lies and everything got very much distorted."

"I will deal with this like an engineer. I have no business in Brazil, I have no business in any other country, I haven't transferred money to Brazil and in no other country. My fortune statement is very clear," Dragnea said on Sunday evening on Romania TV private television station.

He added that a document must be assumed by someone, an institution.

"There are some written papers, (...) I have seen the Interior Ministry release, which is official. There is no assumption of the DGIP [Intelligence and Internal Protection Department], there isn't a document of this intelligence service. (...) It is a strain of lies, of media articles of the past 12 years, released under a sustained campaign. A great deal of the things written there have been investigated. And resolutions on the non-commencement of the criminal investigation were issued, and now they have been placed in this mix again and resumed. I have read the DNA release, I haven't seen my name there. (...) It cannot have anything to do with me, as I have no money in Brazil and I have done no business there," the PSD Chairman said.

Liviu Dragnea maintained that "everything starts from George Soros." "Everything starts from Soros, from the evil he wants to do in this country and not only in this country. It is simple. (...) It is a fact that it is a very organized matter," Dragnea maintained.

The Social-Democrat leader announced that "PSD will have a different attitude" and "will not turn the other cheek." "A different attitude will also generate different actions," he added.

The National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) on Friday confirmed working on an in rem criminal file drawn up on charges of corruption or related offenses pressed by the RISE Project investigative journalism initiative. Brazilian authorities have been requested information in the case.

"Some of the aspects in the journalistic investigation carried on July 6, 2017 are the object of a criminal file on the DNA docket. Action in this case has been started on the DNA's own motion, and an in rem criminal investigation has been ordered concerning corruption and related charges. After the start of the criminal investigation, witnesses were heard, documents were seized and Romanian as well as Brazilian authorities were requested to provide information," DNA said Friday in a press statement.
