Romania is one of the most pollutant  EU members

In the interval 2015 -2016 Romania,Poland,Spain and the UK had the biggest reduction of emissions of sulph oxides (SOx), the biggest part of it taking  place in the energy sector, the report of the European Agency of Environment says.

Even so, Romania has the sixth biggest level of emissions of sulph oxides in the EU after that of Poland, the UK,Spain,France and Germany. The sulph oxides  are obtained mainly through the production and energy distribution (51%) or following the use of energy in industrial activity (20%).

Romania has, similarly,  the 11th highest level of nitrogen oxides (NOx) –dropping – which contributes to the formation of smog and acid rain. Together with the sulph dioxide (SO2) the nitrogen oxides  form pollutant made by the use of vehicles, industrial production or energy production.

As regards the emissions of ammonium (NH3) – resulted following  agricultural activity – Romania is sixth in the EU at great distance from  France, Germany, the UK, Poland and Spain.

Romania is similarly the seventh contributor to emissions  of volatile organic compounds without methane (NMVOC) of the EU. They are the result of industrial activity and contain elements such as ethanol, benzole, formaldehyde or ciclohexane – all toxic for the people.

Romania has the third level of pollution with sulph dioxide (SO2), the seventh level of pollution with suspension powders (TSP)  the sixth of carbon monoxide (CO),the 11th level of lead (Pb) the seventh of cadmium (Cd)  or the nineth of mercury (Hg).These compounds are the result of activities such as production, distribution or use of energy, industrial processes, household or commercial consumption, transport, waste or agricultural activity. The proportions are different from one compound to another, the data of the European Agency for Environment says.
