Romania ranks 28th in a ranking of the 33 most attractive countries in EMEA, after moving up 4 places

Romania climbed four places in a ranking of the 33 most attractive countries in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) for private companies, according to the PwC EMEA Entrepreneurial & Private Business Heatmap.

Thus, the country occupies at present the 28th place, after being situated on 32nd in the previous edition.

According to a press release of the consultancy company, the ranking is made on the basis of the scores obtained depending on 64 indicators for nine categories, namely macro economy, business environment, fiscal framework and regulation, sustainability and climate, social responsibility and governance, public health, education/competences/talents, technology and infrastructure and start-ups ecosystem.

"Romania improved slightly on the overall score from the previous edition, performing best on the fiscal and regulatory environment and macroeconomic indicators, but as the analysis shows, these have a relatively low degree of influence on how companies evaluate and choose a country as a destination to develop their business. Moreover, because the analysis took place at the end of last year, the taxation indicator does not reflect the influence of the major changes applied from 2024, which will most likely be seen in the next edition", said Dinu Bumbacea, Country Managing Partner PwC Romania.

According to EMEA EPB Heatmap 2023, Romania occupies the 7th place for the chapter of macro-economy and namely, 8 for fiscal framework and regulation, between the 33 countries under analysis. For the rest of the categories, Romania is placed at the end of the ranking, thus: technology and -infrastructure – 18, social responsibility and governance -20, sustainability and climate -21, education/competences and talents – 22, business environment -24, start-ups eco-system 24 and public health-33, the last place.

These positions place Romania in the fourth category of the analysis, of the emerging states, after Greece and before Bulgaria, Slovakia, Croatia.

In the first category of leading countries in terms of attractiveness are Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, the UK, Finland, Ireland, Spain and France, and in the second category of advanced countries are Luxembourg, Austria, Belgium, Portugal, Italy and Estonia.

In the third category of the analysis, developing countries, are Poland, Lithuania, Cyprus, Malta, Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia and Slovenia.
