The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the City of Bucharest (CCIB) will organize, on September 3, a Romanian-Korean business forum and, between September 3-5, an industrial exhibition dedicated to the collaboration between the two countries, according to a release sent, on Friday, to ACTMedia.

Sorin Dimitriu, CCIB chairman, had a meeting with Kim Yong Ho, the new Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea in Romania. The main objective of the meeting was to identify concrete ways to develop bilateral economic and commercial relations, given that, according to the foreign relations strategy of the Bucharest chamber, approaching Southern and Eastern Asia is a priority.

The Korean delegation includes representatives of 34 companies that are active in the pharmaceutical industry, the cosmetic products industry, the medical equipment sector, the food stuff and food supplements sector, light industry, chemical industry, energy industry, construction and construction materials industry, agricultural equipment industry and the water and air purification sector.

According to the chairman of the CCIB, the occasion will also see the signing of collaboration agreements between the Bucharest chamber and the Korea - Romania Exchange Association, as well as with the Korean Business Persons in Romania Association.

In Dimitriu's opinion, beside the events mentioned, the organization of a "Business Opportunity Day" dedicated to this country, the development of collaboration at chamber level, of which the signing of collaboration agreements is a part of, as well as the preparation of an economic mission in the Republic of Korea can represent efficient and concrete steps in the direction of developing economic and commercial relations between the two countries.

The Korean Ambassador, who is at his first meeting with an institution in the Romanian chamber system, talked of the interest of Korean businesspersons for collaborating with partners in our country, expressed his full openness towards the projects presented by the CCIB chair and emphasized the fact that Romania has an important economic potential and that there are cooperation opportunities not only in the commercial domain, but also in the investment sector. In this context, the Korean Ambassador to Bucharest stated that the events between September 3-5 can be an important moment to boost the development of bilateral cooperation.

In the first half of 2019, the value of bilateral trade grew by 6.7 pct as compared to the similar period of 2018, reaching 376 million dollars, set against the backdrop of a positive development of Romanian exports (141 million dollars, +41.2 pct). In the same period, imports from this country reduced by 6.9 pct, reaching 235 million dollars.
