Romanian Navy to join BLACKSEAFOR mission

Romania's corvette the Rear-Admiral Horia Macellariu will join an exercise to be carried out by the BLACKSEAFOR Black Sea navy cooperation group, April 5-23.

Press officer of the Romanian Navy Fleet Command Ion Burghisan says the Romanian corvette will conduct sea exercises and representation activities in the ports of Varna, Constanta and Sevastopol as part of the 2nd phase of the 12th activation of BLACKSEAFOR.

Besides the Romanian ship, there will be RFS Novocherkassk of the Russian Federation, TCG Heybeliada of Turkey, BGS Reshitelni of Bulgaria, UPS Cherkasy of Ukraine and GCG Sokhumi of Georgia.

'The sea exercises will include joint defence drills, interventions abroad suspicious civilian ships to prevent human trafficking or the smuggling of arms and dangerous substances, as well as rescue activities of people fallen overboard and assistance for ships in distress,' says Burghisan.

In the stopover ports, the crews will attend joint workshops and the ships will be open for public touirts. The BLACKSEAFOR commander and the commanders of the participating ships will attend media events to increase the visibility of the BLACKSEAFOR actions.
