Statistics: Germany, France and Italy, top three countries controlling business subgroups in Romania

- In Romania, in 2016, 78181 enterprise groups were identified, out of which 5311 all-resident enterprise groups and 72870 multinational enterprise groups (271 domestically controlled and 72599 foreign-controlled, respectively).

- In 2016, approximately 7% of the total enterprise groups identified in Romania were all-resident, over 90% of them being made up by two or three enterprises.

Germany, France and Italy are the top three countries controlling subgroups of enterprises in Romania, according to a report of the National Institute of Statistics (INS) sent on Wednesday.

Thus, in 2016, there were 78,181 groups of enterprises identified in Romania, 5,311 of which were resident enterprises and 72,870 multinational enterprises (271 of them controlled from inside the country and 72,599 from abroad).

Out of the total number of groups of enterprises identified in Romania in 2016, approximately 7 per cent were resident, 90 per cent of which were made of two or three legal units.

Most groups of enterprises in Romania operate in the trade sector, constructions, processing industry or in the professional, scientific and technical activities sector.

By the number of employees, most subgroups of enterprises in Romania are being controlled from Germany, France and Italy.

In 2016, 13,867 from the total number of foreign multinational groups in Romania were controlled by foreign legal persons, and 58,732 were controlled by foreign individuals.

According to 2016 results, by the number of employees of the total multinational enterprises controlled from abroad, the subgroups of enterprises controlled by legal or natural persons from Germany (17.1 per cent), followed by those controlled from France (12.7 per cent) and Italy (10 per cent).

By the number of employees in the total number of multinational groups controlled from abroad, subgroups of enterprises controlled from Germany dominate the processing industry (9.5 per cent), the retail sales, repairs of motor vehicles and motorcycles (2.9 per cent) and the "professional, scientific and technical activities" sector (2.3 per cent).

With respect to subgroups of enterprises controlled from France, 6.2 per cent operate in the processing industry, 2.6 per cent in the retail sales and repairs of motor vehicles and motorcycles. 

Subgroups of enterprises controlled from Italy dominate the processing industry sector (6.4 per cent).
