Swine fever: over 49.800 pigs, slaughtered in the country

The number of swine fever areas in Romania  reached 524 out of which 521 in the people’s households said on Wednesday the chairman of the National Sanitary Veterinary Authority (ANSVSA) Geronimo Raducu Branescu adding that the fever had an aggressive evolution, starting with 9 June.

‘Yesterday it was one year since there has been  swine fever in Romania which started with a slow evolution on the northern-western part of the country where even today we have under control the affected localities. But ,starting with 9th June the evolution was very aggressive in the southern-eastern part of Romania, coming from the natural reserve Danube Delta, an explosive evolution which generates an epidemic situation. We have at the present moment 524 areas of swine fever on the territory of the whole country. 521 are localised in the people’s households, three were found in professional companies. The biggest exploitation affected is in Tulcea and yesterday the slaughtering was finalised, with the elimination of 43,843 swine’Branescu said.

The head of ANSVSA informed that over 49,000 swine have been sacrified since the beginning of the year.

‘As a whole, this year,  there have been eliminated a number of 49,815 swine at the level of the whole country. There were affected until now 94 localities,14 localities in the northern-western part of Romania, being situated in Satu Mare and Bihor. We have affected Salaj county where there is in evolution a case of two wild boars. In the southern-eastern part there is Tulcea county, Constanta, Galati, Braila and Ialomita with 80 localities and a non-specific dynamics  of evolution’ Branescu said.

The national committee for emergency situations was summoned on Wednesday afternoon at the request of the Committee for the supervision of diseases.
