Tenor Jose Carreras - the Cluj-Napoca-based Gheorghe Dima Music Academy's Doctor Honoris Causa
Tenor Jose Carreras on Saturday was awarded the Cluj-Napoca-based Gheorghe Dima Music Academy's Doctor Honoris Causa title, in acknowledgement of his artistic activity.
"We have the privilege and honour to award the Doctor Honoris Causa title to master Jose Carreras, as a sign of acknowledgement for his international artistic activity. Tenor Jose Carreras is a great person, a great people lover, an altruist, who can be taken as a model. All the young people in the world will follow him, because he has managed in the art he makes," Gheorghe Dima Music Academy rector Vasile Jucan said during the ceremony.
In his turn, Jose Carreras said he is honoured by the title awarded to him.
"It is a great honour to receive this title from the Music Academy of Cluj, one of the most active music institutions of Romania. My connection with Romania has been established a long time ago and I am glad that my music is appreciated by the Romanian public, who respects my work. Music is my vocation since I was a child, it is my life," Jose Carreras said.
Attending the ceremony, among others, were Cluj Prefect Gheorghe Vuscan, Mayor Emil Boc, Babes Bolyai University rector, Academician Ioan Aurel Pop.
Tenor Jose Carreras held his first concert in Cluj-Napoca at the Polyvalent Hall, on Sunday, at 19,00hrs.
