The government gives up on buying the corvettes which had to be built in Galati
Premier Sorin Grindeanu stated on Thursday night that the government will annul the government decision issued by the Ciolos cabinet in November regarding the acquisition of multitasking corvettes, which had to be built in Galati as it is illegal.
‘There needed to be a memo which should be approved in the Parliament. Any investment in this domain higher than 100 million euro must be approved by the parliament’said Sorin Grindeanu at Antena 3.
He also said that ‘the steps are still very clear’. ‘We annul, then we go to the parliament’ the premier said.
The Ciolos government adopted in the meeting of 29 November 2016 the decision regarding the approval of the circumstances and the procedure specific to the programme for endowment ‘Multitasking corvette’. Through the document adopted, the cabinet approved the circumstances and the specific procedure for the strategic programme ‘the multitasking corvette’for endowment by Damen Shipyards Group through Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding BV, for four corvettes of \SIGMA – project 10514 built and endowed in the Santierul Naval Damen Galati SA as well as the initial logistic support. The estimated value of the programme, for the whole period of seven years, is of 1.6 bilion euro (with VAT) sum which covers the acquisition of the ammunition and the initial logistic support, which includes the training of the crews.
