The procedure of acquisition of the four corvettes destined to the Romanian Military Marine is underway, with four bids out of which one will be selected, stated on Saturday in Constanta  the minister of defence Mihai Fifor.

The minister  of defence Mihai Fifor stated  in a forum of security which takes place in Mamaia about the four corvettes  that it is a process which takes time, but he is convinced that until the end of the year the contract will be signed with the winning company.

‘This week the acquisition procedure will continue. As I know, this is the period when the bids are presented for the four multi-tasking corvettes. As it is a ongoing procedure, allow me not  to discuss about it. What is important is that we want the procedure to end with success and until the end of the year we sign the contract with the winning company and starting next year we start building the four multi-tasking corvettes’ Mihai Fifor said.

Besides the construction of the four corvettes, the contract will include the renovation of the frigates King Ferdinand and Queen Maria.

„ ‘I remind you that  from the offset of this contract we will modernise the two frigates acquired a while ago from the British marine’ the minister said.

At the same time,Fifor said that another  project which includes the Military Marine is that of the coastal batteries which  will get in the government meeting of next week.

‘We want to strengthen these capacities which we have at the Black Sea.That is why we said that 2018 is the year of the marine and this is what we are doing:we have the procedure for corvettes underway, next  week we take to the government the draft for the acquisition of coastal batteries’Mihai Fifor said.

The minister  of defence Mihai Fifor was present on Saturday at the ‘Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum’ where there were debates on ‘ The challenges regarding security in the area of the Black Sea and the Balkans’.
