Turkish Foreign minister visiting Bucharest, on Wednesday
The ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, Ozgur Kivanc Altan, announced on Monday that the Turkish Foreign minister will arrive in Bucharest on Wednesday.
"This week is a very important one, because, after a rather long break, we will have the visit of the Turkish Foreign minister to Romania. There will be important discussions with the Romanian Foreign minister. He will also have a meeting with the prime minister and with the president of the Senate," informed Ozgur Kivanc Altan.
The Turkish diplomat spoke at the opening of the "Turkiye-Romania Mass-Media Forum", where he also expressed his hope that prime minister Marcel Ciolacu will visit Turkey this year, on which occasion "a step forward" will be achieved in what concerns the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Ozgur Kivanc Altan said that the relations between his country and Romania are "very broad", including an important Euro-Atlantic component.
"Relations between Romania and Turkey are, indeed, very broad. You know very well that this relationship comes from somewhere in the past. After Romania declared its independence, relations with Turkey have always progressed in a positive direction. In fact, this year we celebrate the 90th year of the Balkan Entente. It is a relationship of allies, of neighbors, which continues on this path. (...) We have strong relations. On the one hand, both countries are members of NATO, where they have numerous collaborations, strategic relations have advanced as never before, we carry out collaborations together with the air force, protecting Romania's airspace. Regarding the security of the Black Sea, there is a quite serious threat that we are trying to keep under control. We decided to do an operation in collaboration with Romania and Bulgaria," the Turkish diplomat added.
Ozgur Kivanc Altan pleaded for a better collaboration between the media in Turkey and Romania, "creating a dialogue" between them being, according to him, mutually beneficial.
The "Turkiye-Romania Mass-Media Forum", an event organized by the Yunus Emre Institute, attended by members of the organizers, representatives of some media institutions from Turkey and Romania and the British Institute of the Romanian Academy, took place on Monday at the Grand Hotel Bucharest.
Starting from the reality of the social, cultural, economic, political and military ties between the two countries, the participants in the meeting analyzed the possibility for media organizations and professionals in the field to play a more active role in improving relations between the two countries, as well as in solving possible crises.
Ways to promote content that can contribute to a collaboration between Turkey and Romania, between the two peoples, were explored. In this sense, the president of the Parliamentary Group for Friendship with the Republic of Turkey, deputy Nicolae Georgescu, pleaded for finding ways for the Turkish media to promote Romanian tourism, and the general secretary of the Union of Professional Journalists from Romania, Madalina Corina Diaconu, made a call for an extended, punctual collaboration between journalists from the two countries.
At the same time, the need for an information exchange mechanism between professionals from the Romanian and Turkish media was highlighted for correct information of the public, analyzing the opportunity to ensure a sustainable cooperation between them, after this meeting.
