PM Ponta: We are doing the right thing by supporting the Republic of Moldova

Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Tuesday requested the ministers to continue the Romania - Republic of Moldova projects that are underway and he issued an apology for 'the boorish statements' of the Romanian President's advisors towards the Chisinau officials.

'According to the law, Mr. Dragnea is in charge of the direct relation with the Republic of Moldova as regards the use of those funds (20 million euros allotted in 2013 to the Republic of Moldova for school infrastructure - editor's note), but the Education Ministry is also involved, therefore I ask you to speak with the Moldovan education minister in order for these funds to be earmarked for kindergartens and schools. I know that as far as Romania's job is concerned, the gas pipeline (Iasi-Ungheni, editor's note) is ready. Of course, it has to be completed on the other side too. The public television has started broadcasting in Moldova,' PM Ponta said in the opening of the Government meeting.

In addition, Victor Ponta issued an apology for the 'the boorish statements of the Romanian President's advisors and of the President himself towards the Chisinau officials'.

'But I am convinced that a historical relation cannot be ruined by irresponsible people. I believe that we are doing the right thing by supporting Moldova and I want to continue on this path in 2014 too. I ask all the ministers to continue the projects already begun with the Republic of Moldova,' the Premier said.
