Bucuresti, in a top of the 132 most visited cities in the world, led by London

 

Bucharest is among the 132 cities in the world preferred by foreign tourists, fewer than one million visitors estimated for this year, according to the report MasterCardGlobal Destination Cities Index, the first place being occupied by London, Bangkok,Paris, Singapore and Dubai complete the top five, cities which benefit from a strong inflow of foreign tourists, resulted from the extension of the middle class, innovations brought about in the category of luxury travel and the increasing need to travel on business purposes. This trend will be kept taking into consideration the technological development and the ways of cooperation which the companies could use, a press release of MasterCard shows.

 

Bucharest is 90 in the top, with a number of foreign visitors estimated at 928,028 people in 2014 and total expenses of 392 million dollars.

 

At its fourth edition, the report offers a ranking of the most visited 132 cities in the world.

According to the study, it is estimated that London will receive 18.7 million visitors in 2014, by 300,000 more than the destination which is first 2013, Bangkok. For the other cities in top five it is estimated they will draw 18.37 million foreign tourists (Bangkok), 15.57 million visitors (Paris), 12.47 million visitors (Singapore) while Dubai is estimated to receive 12,47 million visitors.

 

‘The ranking shows a strong demand and continuous interest for air travel, both for business and personal reasons. The position they have in the top this year shows that the cities are known as business centres, cultural and economic centres as well’ Ann Cairns, chairman of International Markets MasterCard says.

 

MasterCard Index of Global Destination Cities classifies the cities from the point of view of total number of incoming of foreign tourists and expenses made outside the country by the same visitors in the destination cities. The report offers estimates regarding the increase of the number of passengers and visitors for 2014.

 

Public information is used to determine the number of incoming foreign tourists and the expenses in each of the 132 cities.
