Healthcare: Medical service supply in Romania under European average
Jacek Glinka, the president of Medicines for Europe Association, present at the International Health Forum, declared that Romania is last in Europe for the supply of medical services and said that a sustainable budget would solve the problem.
State councillor Diana Paun shares the same opinion. When explained the need for balance in the budget allocated to the health sector in Romania.
“We are preoccupied by having sustainable health systems. Unfortunately, the Romanian health system is facing many challenges and the medicine market makes no exception. I think that the biggest threat is the lack of consistency in policies and regulations with repercussions on the pharmaceutical sector, from the economic point of view and on the patient,”said Diana Paun, state councillor at the Presidential Administration.
The Association of Generic Medicine Manufacturers (APMGR) of Romania draws the authorities’ attention on the needs of generic medicines in Romania.
According to APMGR, the local generic industry contributes with 1.5% of GDP, ensuring over 8,000 jobs. Romania has a long tradition in medicine production- over 100 years- and the pharmaceutical sector was declared a strategic one for Romania’s economy, being included on the list of ten priority fields for the country’s economy.
International Health Forum, organized by APMGR, was at the thirds edition and is the most important event of the industry of generic and bio-similar medicines in Romania, and gathered pharmaceutical companies, politicians, health specialists, public officials, patients’ organizations and opinion leaders for debates and exchange of opinions about the most important problems facing the industry.
