Tourism: Transylvania, on top of Lonely Planet travel guide

The Lonely Planet travel guide to be launched on Thursday places Transylvania on top of the recommended tourist destinations for 2016.

It is the 11th annual guide to propose the top 10 countries, cities and regions proposed by a panel of expert authors, Lonely Planet editors and bloggers, based on criteria including the tourist projects, the environment and the cost-to-benefit ratio, according to lefigaro.fr and metrotime.be.

The current trend seems to be the rediscovery of Europe. Transylvania, with wildlife still including wolves and bears and with Brasov and Bran Castle attracting vampire hunters, is first among the top 10 regions, ahead of western Iceland, Cuba's Vinales Valley, the vineyards of Friuli in northern Italy, the Waiheke Island of New Zealand, France's Auvergne, the Hawaii, Germany's Bavaria, Brazil's Costa Verde and the isle of St Helen in the Southern Atlantic.
