Trade: GfK: in Romania, the retail business grow over the European average
The most recent prognoses for 2016 show the fact that there is a positive tendency for the consolidation of the retail business on the markets in the European Union, especially in Romania where, according to a study made by GfK, the estimated growth will be 7%.
‘The consolidation of the retail businesses of last year will continue in 2016. For the EU countries, the growth will be approximately 1%.There will be positive evolutions, especially in Romania with a growth of 7% and in the Baltic states with approximately 5% which, gradually, start to catch up with the bigger markets. We expect, similarly, a robust dynamics in retail for Sweden where we estimate a growth of 5% as for Spain a growth of 4%’ theGfK study says.
At the same time,last year, the profitability of commercial spaces grew in the EU with approximately 3%. This is a good sign for the retail area which recorded growth two years in a row after a long period of decline.
The biggest rates of profitability came from Northern Europe, Switzerland and Luxembourg and the lowest from Eastern and Southern Europe – however, the countries in this region grow continuously.
‘2015 was a good year for European consumers’ explains Dr.Gerold Doplbauer, retail expert with GfK.’ The economy of the European Union grew by approximately 5% and the unemployement rate dropped in most countries. The household consumption grew significantly. The low rate of interest for deposits made saving less attractive, thus many consumers chose to spend their money, the main beneficiary being the retail’.
GdK made an analysis of the European retail, covering the most recent evolutions and prognoses for 2016. The market indicators evaluated by GfK for a total of33 European countreis were: purchasing power, rate of the expenditure of the population for retail against total expenditure, inflation, profitability of the commercial spaces.
