Petromidia refinery registered last year an  increase of the nitrogen oxide emissions to 514 tonnes

The Petromidia refinery, including Divizia Petrochimica reduced last year the sulphe oxide (SO2) emissions with 3.5% against 2016, but registered an increase of the nitrogen oxide (Nox) from492 tonnes in 2016 to 514 tonnes in 2017. In its turn, Rafinaria Vega registered a huge quantity of emissions of SO2 with 242 kg in 2017, as comparedto 201 kg in 2016, as well as emissions of Nox slightly higher,  from 60.81 tonnes in 2016 to 63.47 tonnes in 2017, according to the report of sustainability for 2017 published by KMG International (former Grup Rompetrol).

‘All  the obligations of conformity were met in 2017,  the Unity for Refinery registering a drop of 5% of its emissions of CO2 against 2016. When referring to the emissions of  So2 and Nox although in legal limits, there were fluctuations registered in the Unity of Refinery ( refineries Petromidia and Vega and the Division Petrochemical) shows the document.

As regards  the generation of other waste, the rate of recovery of waste for the Petromidia refinery in 2017 was 91% with a rate of waste  generation of 3 kg of waste/tonne of processed raw material.

‘The total volume of the waste produced by Rafinaria Vega was 980.08 tonnes and the Unitatea de Retail generated a total volume of waste of 4,808.52 tonnes, divided between Rompetrol Downstream (4,738.91 tonnes) andRompetrol Gas (69.61 tonnes),  the authors of the document say.

Rompetrol Rafinare (RRC) the refining division of KGM International manages the two refineries.

Rompetrol Downstream, the retail division of KMG International includes the network of the group of fuel stations.

In 2017,the costs generated by the implementation of the activities of conformity and protection of the environment were of almost4.3 million dollars, aiming aspects such as the elimination of the waste, wrapping, control of volatile organic compounds (COV), environment analysis,  collection of waste, works of sanitation of the refinery platforms, etc.

In conformity with the European Directive included in the Romanian legislation through HG no.121/2013 – regarding the use of the biofuels and bioliquids starting with 1 January 2017, Petromidia Refinery produces diesel with a content of biofuel of at least 6.5%,and at least 4.5% for gasoline.

The total quantity  produced in 2017 by Rompetrol Rafinare was 5,662.487 tonnes, out of which 4,706,412 tonnes of oil and 956,075 tonnes of other raw materials.

The volume processed by Rafinaria Petromidia increased from3.8 million tonnes in 2007 to 5.66 million tonnes in 2017 (with 5% more than in 2016).Moreover, the daily quantity of processed  raw material increased constantly, from an average of 10,800 tonnes in 2007 to 16,763 tonnes in 2017.

The oldest unit of processing in Romania( set up in 1905) Rafinaria Vega is the only producer of special products such as n-hexane, ecological solvents and bitumen. Between 2012 – 2017 Rafinaria Vega Ploiesti processed a quantity of approximately 1.9 million tonnes of  raw materials, from 305,000 tonnes in 2012 to 373,000 tonnes in 2017.

At local level,  the sales of fuel ( gasoline, diesel, GPL) increased from 1.6 million tonnes in 2012 to approximately 2 million tonnes in 2017, growth of 7% against 2016.

Moreover, the volume of sales in Bulgaria,Moldova and Georgia registered a growing evolution against 2016 with a growth of 9%  as a result of the global harmonisation to the group standards, the introduction of the concept of Rompetrol station in the three countries already mentioned and the extension of the network in the region to 215 stations, a growth of 20% against 2012. As such, KMG  International is at present the biggest supplier of oil products of the Republic of Moldova with a market share estimated at 48% being at the same time an important player in Georgia (19%) and Bulgaria (16%).

The total sales of oil products in 2017 reached 2.6 million tonnes, up by 3% against 2016, while the direct sales of processed oil products got to 482,000 tonnes, a similar  volume with that of 2016.At the same time, the volume of oil products supplied by Rafinaria Vega Ploiesti and Divizia Petrochimica registered growth of 9% against 2016 up to 206,000 tonnes, while the direct exports in the region of the Black Sea increased with approximately 18% in 2017,  as compared to the volume of 2016 (429,000 tonnes).
