Economic Commission chairman asks Finance Ministry to present list of 31 banks which do not pay taxes
Liberal (PNL) senator Daniel Zamfir, the chairman of the Economic Commission, Industries and Services, asked the finance minister, Ionut Misa on Thursday to send the commission, until August 10, the list of the 31 banks operating in Romania which have not paid tax on profit in the last five years.
“Following your public statement that 31 banks operating in Romania have not paid tax on profit in the last five years, I ask you to send the Economic Commission, Industries and Services of the Senate the following data: the list of the 31 banks you referred to in your statements; the situation of the payment of tax on profit by non banking institutions and the collection of debts in the last ten years”, says the letter Daniel Zamfir sent to the finance minister.
Zamfir pointed out that Misa should send the data requested by August 10, 2017.
Finance minister Ionut Misa, declared on Wednesday, at Antena 3, that 70% of banks do not pay tax on profit.
“70% of banks do not pay tax on profit. Last year, 31 out of 46 banking units declared losses of 9.8 billion lei. In the last five years, only 15 banks paid tax on profit and I also included banks which paid taxes only for one year out of five. The collected amount was 1.7 billion lei,” Misa declared.
