New MAPEI Romania management team:“We’re beginning an aggressive growth stage”

The completion of a new top management team closed the first development chapter of MAPEI Romania since the Italian’s company entry on the Romanian market, in 2006, and signals the beginning of a more aggressive growth cycle. “Whilst globally MAPEI is acknowledged as the undisputed leader of the market for adhesives for ceramic tiles and natural stone, In Romania the company has so far been a rather discreet presence. Jointly with my new colleagues, we are going to change that; we will become more active and visible in the market place and the first results will become apparent this very year,” MAPEI Romania’s CEO Florin Ciobanu reckoned.

Although all members of the new top management team have yet to get in their 40s, they have an impressive cumulated experience in business and particularly in the construction materials industry.

Ciobanu, 38, assumed the leadership of MAPEI Romania in February 2014, after 13 years spent with two of the best-known companies in the industry, local subsidiaries of highly-respected multinationals, just like his new firm. Before taking on the MAPEI challenge, over a period of six years Ciobanu created, grew from ground zero and imposed on the market an entirely new division of such a multinational, indeed a new business unit in that company’s portfolio.

Since November 2014 MAPEI Romania’s Marketing Director is Silviu Minciu, one of the best known marketers in the field, with an industry experience spanning more than 15 years. Minciu’s professional achievements include many new market entries for successful products, as well as the coordination of integrated advertising and communication campaigns on behalf of one of the largest multinationals in the Romanian construction materials industry.

The trio at the helm was completed in January 2015 by the company’s new CFO Ioana Cornea. Ms. Cornea holds considerable and diversified financial management expertise, having worked both with local and multinational companies, active in industries ranging from the production of automotive components and sub-assemblies, to distribution, logistics and transportation.

Ciobanu, Cornea and Minciu joined a pre-existing management team, composed of George Beiu (Ceramics Division Director), George Ifrim (Special Products Division Director), Marius Tisulescu (Concrete Additives Division Director), Mihai Vîntu (Logistics Director) and Ovidiu Badea (Technology Director).

Established in Milan, Italy, in 1937, MAPEI is nowadays one of the world’s largest producers of adhesives and specialty chemicals for the construction industry, with moere than two billion euro in annual turnover, 20,000 tons of daily deliveries and annual investments in R&D of 115 million euro.

The Group operates 64 production facilities in 31 countries worldwide. MAPEI was involved in numerous landmark projects worldwide, including but not limited to Charles Bridge in Prague, the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Louvre, Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the Beijing Olympic Stadium or the Rome metropolitan.
