ForMin Bogdan Aurescu presented the initiative to set up an international court against terrorism in Tunis

The foreign affairs minister Bogdan Aurescu presented on Sunday in a meeting with his Tunisian counterpart Taieb Baccouche the solidarity of the Romanian people with the Tunisian people while facing terrorism and presented the Romanian initiative for the setting up of an international court against terrorism.

 

Minister Aurescu participated on Sunday in Tunis at the international meeting of solidarity against terrorism, organized by the People’ s meeting ( the Tunisian parliament) as a result of the attack at the Bardo Museum on 18 March.

 

According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by his presence at this meeting, the head of Romanian diplomacy sent a firm message, in the name of the Romanian party for the condemnation of terrorist acts, as well as the support for the Tunis authorities in their effort to combat terrorism.

 

At the same time, the minister of foreign affairs discussed with his counterpart about the calendar of bilateral contacts, addressing the invitation, accepted by his counterpart,for a visit to Bucharest during this year.

The two officials agreed that it is necessary to boost economic relations, including commercial exchanges which last year recorded a value of approximately 315 million euro, as well as the exchanges in the domain of education. At the same time, the Romanian minister expressed Romania’s openness to offer support to Tunisia in the domain of democratic transition.

 

The meeting led by the Tunisian president Beji Caid Essebsi were present numerous political personalities from countries in the EU and the Arab world, members of government, of parliament and the leadership of Tunisian political parties.

 

The ministry of foreign affairs mentions that on the margin of the minister’s participation there was a discussion of the Spanish foreign affairs minister Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo who expressed his support for the project of the criminal court against terrorism, the two ministers agreeing that judicial experts should work together to draw up the court.

 

The Romanian minister made the visit to Tunis together with the Dutch minister for foreign affairs who had paid a short visit to Bucharest on 28 March.
