President Iohannis: Romania's political and macroeconomic stability, strong arguments for Romania becoming a US investment hub in the region

President Klaus Iohannis on Monday said that Romania's political and macroeconomic stability, in the context of the troubled events in its vicinity, are strong arguments for Romania becoming a US investment hub in the region.

"Romania's political and macroeconomic stability, in the context of the troubled events in its vicinity, are strong arguments for our country becoming a US investment hub in the region. Beyond the dimension of the Romanian market, the Romanian economy has to offer many business opportunities. Areas such as energy, strategic infrastructure, IT should be present on a short list of priority areas, any progress in this sense fulfilling the citizens' expectations and contributing to the creation of new jobs and, obviously, to the increase in welfare," Iohannis said in "New prospects of the US-Romania Strategic Partnership" Forum.

He pointed out that the strategic partnership with the USA represents a fundamental landmark of Romania's foreign policy and will continue to take the same privileged place in the architecture of our foreign policy, together with the affiliation to NATO and the EU.

"The Partnership crowns a rich bilateral relation, which was officially born on June 14, 1880. It was then when the grounds were set for strengthening the reports between our states and their getting closer over the past century. On this path we have always had a secure and powerful anchor in the Romanian community in the US," the head of state said.

Iohannis pointed out that the expansion of the Strategic Partnership with the US represents a major priority to Romania's foreign and security policy, with the firm support of the political class and of its citizens being needed.

"Moreover, the privileged relation between Romania and the US is a solid guarantee for the stability of the entire region, especially now in the political context marked by major challenges in the eastern and the global vicinity," the head of state mentioned.

He showed that Romania wants the political dialogue and the collaboration with the USA to continue and diversify in all cooperation areas.

"The political-military and security dimension is and will remain from the viewpoint of the US presence consolidation in Romania and the Black Sea the most visible component, the most dynamic component of the Strategic Partnership. Making operational the US ballistic missile defence system at Deveselu will crown the common work and dedication and will represent an extremely valuable Romanian-US contribution to the trans-Atlantic security. Romania will continue to be the same solid and trustful partner of the US in international missions, including those under NATO aegis," Iohannis said.

The head of state showed that the US investments in Romania also represent an instrument of economic modernisation.

"The bilateral cooperation in economy and in direct relation with it, in the education, scientific research, innovation areas, is essential not only for stimulating and modernising Romania, but also for the US business people interested in the special potential of our country. We believe we must make efforts and have the same ambition to also reach in the areas of trade and US investments in Romania the same collaboration level as in the political-military area. The US investments don't represent only a funding source, but also an instrument for economic modernisation through the technologic transfer and the development of human resources," Iohannis said.
