ForMin Judeh: Jordan is facing terror challenge; youth should be educated to reject such ideas

Jordan is facing challenges including terrorism, while the youth should be educated to reject the ideas promoted by terrorism and extremism, visiting Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh said Thursday in Bucharest."The fact that Jordan is an oasis of stability in the area is no coincidence, but the result of a policy conducted by the King of Jordan. Jordan is facing some challenges. There is this challenge of terrorism, the fight against terror. As the King of Jordan said, the fight against terror is not necessarily a fight of the Western countries, but of Muslims. As the Romanian foreign minister also said, this is an issue of Europe's eastern neighbourhood. We believe Europe is an important neighbour, but the size of the issues has exceeded the geographical area where they emerge. That is why the King of Jordan called them a Third World War," Judeh told the Annual Meeting of the Romanian Diplomacy.

He added that the crimes committed in the name of Islam should be seen as running contrary to the Islamic teachings, being violations that have nothing to do with Islam, which exceed by far the geographical area where they emerge and generate repercussions at a military and security level.

The Jordanian chief diplomat pointed out that the youth in the region should be educated in the spirit of total rejection of the ideas promoted by terrorism and extremism.

"We have to oppose this idea of terrorism, oppression and extremism. We have to educate the youth in the spirit of rejecting these ideas, to protect them from becoming vulnerable to the propaganda of radical movements. As I said, we are turning all talk into actions in Jordan. Over the past two years, and under the Jordanian chairmanship of the United Nationals Security Council, we had a representative of the younger generation of Jordan who discussed the part of the younger generations in the fight against terrorism. At the same time, a conference was held in Amman tackling this issue two weeks ago," he added.

Judeh pointed out that in his conversations with his Romanian counterpart in Bucharest, mention was made of the need for political solutions in countries such as Syria, Libya and Yemen.

"The absence of political solutions in Syria, Libya and Yemen raises the problem of the need for such solutions. At the same time, we mentioned the Palestinian question. And the peace process between Palestinians and Israelis. If no solution is found, there will be no peace or stability in the area. That is why we have to intensify our efforts to solve this issue that regards Jordan as well, which cannot be a spectator, but should get involved and it is getting actively engaged in the resolution of this file," said Judeh.
