The first military exercise to be coordinated in the region by NFIU, after next year's summit

Commander of the NATO Force Integration Unit (NFIU) in Bucharest Catalin Ticulescu has announced that the first military exercise to be coordinated in the region by the unit, which was activated on Thursday, will take place after next year's summit, in coordination with the established action plan.

"It is for the first time that a NATO commandment is established in Romania and it is going to be a difficult mission, but on the other hand I am certain that the personal experience of Romanian troops, which they gained in the theatres of operations, through courses and other international activities, combined with the experience of foreign officers and non-commissioned officers assigned to the commandment will create all necessary conditions to fulfill our mission," Ticulescu stated at the end of inauguration ceremony of the unit.

He added that Romanian troops active at Bucharest's NATO unit have been selected according to thorough criteria, such as good knowledge of English - a prerequisite - and that experience in the theatres of operations, work experience at NATO posts and international courses have all been taken into account.

The NFIU in Bucharest was activated on Thursday during a ceremony attended by Defense Minister Mircea Dusa, Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Nicolae Ciuca, Romanian Ambassador to NATO Sorin Ducaru and Director General of the NATO International Military Staff (DGIMS) General Lieutenant Christopher Harper.

This is one of six commandments established in Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania in order to strengthen NATO's eastern flank. All units were inaugurated on Thursday.
